Processed Animal Proteins (PAP)

Sonac offers a broad range of processed animal proteins (PAPs). PAPs are a nutritionally rich feed ingredients which helps produce healthy animals. Produced in Europe, PAPs are made from animal by-products which are fit for human consumption. The use of it is both safe and sustainable because it prevents valuable food going to waste.

Processed animal proteins are co-products from the meat-industry. Each slaughtered animal results in Europe in about 40% of animal by-products (graphic 1). They can be food-, feed- or technical- grade (depending on the way of collection and separation). The high biological value of animal proteins, the fact that some of them even have bio-functional properties, make them very suitable as a feed ingredient for young animal nutrition.

Use of PAP in farmed animals diets

The export to and use of PAP in third countries Is allowed under OIE rules and the conditions of the importing countries where controls of animal proteins successfully exists for many years. Current regulations prevent the use of PAP in farmed animals diets in the EU. Unfortunately, because this is hindering the industry to valorize animal by-products in the best way. To strengthen the circular economy these by-products should directed to the most valuable use. Our high-quality, natural and safe ingredients of animal origin are the key to contribute to sustainability.
